ROCHESTER, NY – Senior defenseman Brady Norrish (Strongfield, Saskatchewan/Yorkton Terriers) of the RIT men’s hockey team was named one of 20 candidates for the 2018 Senior CLASS Award on Wednesday, Nov. 1. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be a senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – classroom, character, community and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in the community.
A three-year captain, Norrish has helped lead the Tigers to back-to-back Atlantic Hockey Championships and a two NCAA Tournament berths (2015 and 2016). Norrish has appeared in 100 career games with 11 goals, 44 assists, 55 points, and a plus-17 rating. He is a three-time All-Atlantic Hockey selection, having earned second team plaudits in 2014-15 and 2016-17, along with third team honors in 2015-16. In 2015, Norrish won RIT’s Craig Lauzon (top rookie) and Tim Cordick Awards (top defenseman) and was the Greg Moss Hard Hat Award winner in 2016.
In the classroom, Norrish, a business management major, is also a two-time Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team selection (2015-16, 2016-17). Norrish has worked with Foodlink to help box donated food to be checked and shipped to people in need. Other activities include helping out at the Margaret’s House (child daycare house) on campus, volunteering to represent men’s hockey in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
The 20 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in February, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2018 NCAA Men’s Frozen Final Four® in April.
