ROCHESTER – The scoring started early and continued throughout the match as the MCC women’s soccer team claimed the Region III, Division I championship with a 14-0 victory over Mercyhurst North East Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Tribunes (12-2-0) secured their 19th consecutive regional title and a trip to the District E tournament next weekend at a location to be determined.
Tournament MVP Elin Eklund had four goals and five assists and Bayley Kralik added five goals and two assists for Monroe, which put on a breathtaking display of offense that overwhelmed the Saints. Theoni Zervaadded three goals and three assists for the Tribunes, who outshot Mercyhurst 42-3 on the game.
Kralik and Eklund owned the first half for MCC. Kralik got the team on the board in the seventh minute with what be the eventual game-winner. Eklund then added a pair in a span of 3:16 to make it 3-0.
The duo then went on a personal 3-0 run over a minute and 58 seconds midway through the half, with Kralik tallying two and Eklund one as both registered hat tricks in the first half alone. Emma Krenzer then scored and Eklund added her fourth to give Monroe an 8-0 lead at the half.
The onslaught continued in the second half. Taylor Ghysel scored in the 48th minute, and Zerva then proceeded to score three in a row (all assisted by Eklund). Kralik finished off the scoring with a pair of goals as the Tribunes cruised to yet another regional title.
Marykate Eckert made a pair of easy saves to record the shutout. Ari Green, Emma Moulton, and Meltem Kocak added assists on the afternoon.
