ROCHESTER, NY – Senior defenseman Brady Norrish (Strongfield, Saskatchewan/Yorkton Terriers) and freshman goaltender Logan Drackett (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Canucks) of the RIT men’s hockey team garnered Atlantic Hockey Conference weekly honors on Tuesday, for the week ending Oct. 15, 2017. Norrish was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Drackett garnered Rookie of the Week honors.
Playing in his 100th career game at RIT, Norrish recorded an assist and blocked a game-high five shots in a 3-3 tie against No. 14 Northeastern in the season opener at Blue Cross Arena last Saturday. Norrish was named a 2017 All-Atlantic Hockey second team selection despite missing 16 games due to injury. It is the sixth Atlantic Hockey weekly selection of his collegiate career.
Drackett was strong in his collegiate debut, stopping 41 of 44 shots in a 3-3 tie against No. 14 Northeastern as part of RIT’s Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend. He was named the game’s third star. Drackett stopped all 16 shots in the first period, 11 shots in the second and 14 in the third period. He is the second RIT player at the Division I level to win league Rookie of the Week honors after his collegiate debut since Tyler Brenner in 2008.
RIT is back in action this weekend on home ice, taking on Union College on Friday and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Saturday. Both games from the Gene Polisseni Center begin at 7:05 p.m.
