COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett is the Big Ten Conference offensive player of the week coming off the Buckeyes’ 56-14 victory over Nebraska in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday.
This is the eighth weekly offensive award for Barrett and it moves him into a tie for third-place with Purdue’s Drew Brees for most awards in Big Ten history. Wisconsin’s Ron Dayne and Michigan’s Denard Robinson share the record with nine player of the week awards.
Barrett was outstanding – “elite,” per coach Urban Meyer – against Nebraska, completing 27 of 33 passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns before exiting the game early in the fourth quarter. He also rushed for 48 yards and two more touchdowns and tied his own school-record of seven TDs responsible for on the evening.
The win was the 500th in Big Ten play for Ohio State and it was the 32nd of Barrett’s career to move him into sole possession of second place for most victories at Ohio State.
Barrett, who has already graduated and who is the first three-time captain in Ohio State history, is having a terrific season and his and his team’s national rankings are impressive and indicative:

– He is first in points responsible for with 158 and fourth in points per game (22.6);
– He has the best TD-to-INT ratio among those with at least 15 TD passes at 21-1;
– He is tied for second with just one interception on the season;
– He is fourth in passing efficiency at 173.8;
– He is 13th in total offense at 313.9 yards per game;

– He is 15th in completion percentage at 66.7 pct.
And with a grand total of just 40 seconds played in the fourth quarter combined in the last four games, he has the Buckeyes rolling on a school record run of five consecutive games of 500-or-more yards of offense and a school record-tying four consecutive games with 50-or-more points.
