LIVONIA, Michigan – The third-ranked MCC women’s soccer team bounced back from a tough defeat to knock off previously unbeaten Lewis & Clark Community College 2-1 Saturday afternoon.
Theoni Zerva and Paige McGrath scored for the Tribunes (10-2-0), who were coming off a tough 3-2 loss to No. 10 Schoolcraft College on Saturday. Monroe handed sixth-ranked Lewis & Clark (13-1-0) its first loss of the season.
Zerva got things started a little more than 10 minutes into the game, as she sent a perfectly-placed free kick past the Trailblazer goalie for a 1-0 lead.
The score remained that way until a little over 21 minutes remained in the second half. Elin Eklund sent a cross to McGrath, who put it home for a 2-0 advantage.
Lewis & Clark got one back late in the game, converting a header off a corner kick. But Monroe was able to keep the score right there to get the win.
Marykate Eckert made four saves for the Tribunes.
