TROY, NY — Senior Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) scored twice, and Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) handed out two assists, as the RIT (4-5-2, 2-2-1 Liberty League) men’s soccer team defeated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (7-4-1, 2-2-1 Liberty League), 3-0 in Liberty League action Friday afternoon. With the win, RIT moves into a tie with Rensselaer for fifth in the Liberty League standings.
Shots were 12-8 in favor of the Tigers, while corner kicks were even at 2-2. Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook)got the win in net for RIT, making one save. Matt LaBranche took the loss for RPI, making four saves.
RIT took a lead on Kouroupas’ first goal of the game that came in the 26th minute. Mark-Vincent Sansone(Hilton, NY/Aquinas Institute) gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead on his second goal of the season off an assist from Garno. He scored off a ball from Garno on a corner kick to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead.
Kouroupas put the game away with his second goal of the game and fourth of the season on an assist from Garno in the 68th minute.
With the win, RIT is 2-0-1 in its last three games, outscoring its opponents 7-3 in that stretch.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 when they face league foe Skidmore College at 2 p.m. in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
