NORTH EAST, Pennsylvania – The MCC men’s soccer team picked up a crucial victory on Saturday, shutting out host Mercyhurst North East 2-0 in the first of a home-and-home series that will decide the Region III championship.
The Tribunes (5-3-2) will welcome the Saints to DiMarco Field on Oct. 28 in the second half of the series. A Monroe win will clinch the regional title.
Matt Englert and Jordan Sullivan scored for MCC. Kevin Kabongo assisted on both goals.
The Tribune defense was stout and did not allow a Mercyhurst shot on goal, resulting in an easy shutout for keeper Michael Hunter.
Monroe travels to Syracuse on Wednesday to take on former regional rival Bryant & Stratton.
