BATAVIA, New York – Sophomore Bayley Kralik scored twice in a span of 3:15 in the first half, and the MCC defense made it stand up as the Tribunes defeated Genesee Community College 4-0 Tuesday evening.
Theoni Zerva and Elin Eklund also scored for Monroe (6-1-0; ranked fourth in NJCAA D-I), who knocked off a top-ranked NJCAA Division III team for the second time this season. The Tribunes also defeated Erie CC when the Kats were No. 1.
Kralik got things started for MCC, converting a pass from Meghan Carroll to make it 1-0 in the 16th minute. She then doubled the lead a few moments later, with Emma Moulton assisting this time.
Zerva made it 3-0 in the 67th minute, and Eklund capped the scoring in the 85th. Alicia Nikolasevic assisted on the last goal.
The Tribune defense, anchored by keeper MaryKate Eckert, held the potent Cougar attack off the scoreboard. Monroe outshot Genesee 26-6 on the game, including an 18-4 edge in shots on goal. Eckert stopped all four of those for the shutout.
