HERKIMER, New York – The Herkimer Generals broke a 1-all tie with two second-half goals and went on to defeat Monroe 3-1 in a men’s soccer matchup Saturday afternoon.

The Tribunes (3-3-1) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. Herkimer, the second-ranked team in NJCAA Division III, moved to 9-0-0 on the season.

The Generals jumped out to a quick lead, as Luke Murphy scored in the second minute for a 1-0 lead. Monroe responded in the 26th minute, when Matt Murray found the back of the net off a Kevin Kabongo assist.

The score remained deadlocked at 1 until Herkimer broke through in the 71st minute on a goal by Tyler Dobinson. Murphy then added a huge insurance tally in the 84th minute to seal the win.

Keeper Michael Hunter stopped three shots for the Tribunes.
