KEUKA PARK, NY — The RIT (1-2-0) men’s soccer team won for the first time in 2017 in convincing fashion with a 6-1 win over Keuka College (0-3-0) on Thursday evening. The six goals scored are the most tallies in a game by the Tigers since a 6-0 win over Bard College in 2014.
Junior Anthony DeFeo (Rochester, NY/Hilton) scored a personal best two goals, while Gene Sicoli(Commack, NY/Commack) handed out a career-high three assists for RIT. Jared Short (Grafton, WI/Cedarburg), Dean Kouroupas (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield), Connor Gill (East Northport, NY/Commack) and Tristan Scott (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) also scored.
The Tigers fired 17 shots, including 11 in the second half, to four for the Wolfpack. The Tigers took four corner kicks. Peter Cinibulk (Bellbrook, OH/Bellbrook) got the win in net for RIT, playing the first 55 minutes. Patrick O’Mara (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) played the final 35 minutes. Christopher Spaulding took the loss for Keuka, making three saves.
RIT did not wait long to get on the scoreboard when DeFeo scored in the second minute on a through-ball from Nick Simone (Hilton, NY/Hilton) to give RIT a 1-0 lead. Short scored his first collegiate goal in the 16th minute when he headed in a corner kick from Simon Garno (Hilton, NY/Hilton) into the near post giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.
Sicoli fed Kouroupas with a pass in the 23rd minute that the senior buried to give RIT a 3-0 lead in the 23rd minute. Gill chipped a shot home through traffic in the 45th minute to give the Tigers a 4-0 halftime lead.
DeFeo gave RIT a 5-0 lead early in the second half when scored into the open net off a shot from Sicoli that clanked off the post and in. Scott made it 6-0 RIT on his goal off an assist from Sicoli in the 63rd minute.
Jared Burns scored for Keuka in the 74th minute to get on the board.
With the win, RIT is 6-0-0 all time versus Keuka.
RIT returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 13 when the Tigers host Elmira College at 4 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
