Tommy Field hit a grand slam in the third inning and Kohl Stewart earned his first Triple-A win despite a rough second inning and the Rochester Red Wings beat the Louisville Bats 10-4 Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

The Red Wings (72-53) moved to 2.0 games up in the Wild Card as Lehigh Valley fell to Charlotte 8-3.

J.B. Shuck opened the game with a triple against Bats (49-75) starter Luke Farrell. He later scored on a Niko Goodrum fielder’s choice to give the Wings a 1-0 lead.

Louisville put the first two runners on in the 1st against Stewart (1-0) but didn’t score. The Bats didn’t waste their chances in the 2nd, scoring four runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-run home from Darnell Sweeney, to take a 4-1 lead.

Rochester’s third inning didn’t have the look of a big frame. Daniel Palka doubled with one out and was still on second base with two outs. Farrell then walked Kennys Vargas, Matt Hague and ByungHo Park consecutively to force in a run. Field followed with a grand slam on a 1-1 pitch and the Red Wings regained the lead at 6-4.

Engelb Vielma led off the fourth with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-4.

Stewart settled in after the second. He allowed a doubled and hit a batter in the third but set down the final seven batters he faced. Stewart allowed four runs on seven hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 5.0 innings.

Goodrum drove in his second run of the night with a two-out single in the eighth and Rochester added two more runs in the ninth off Bats position player Hernan Iribarren to cap the scoring at 10-4.

John Curtiss fired 2.2 shutout innings and surrendered just one hit with two strikeouts in relief and Michael Tonkin closed the game out with 1.1 scoreles frames despite a hit and two walks.

Louisville made six errors in defeat, a season-high for an opponent against the Red Wings. Shuck, Palka, Goodrum and Vielma all had two hits for Rochester.
