John Hicks plated Efren Navarro with a walk-off double in the 12th inning as the Toledo Mud Hens erased a four-run deficit to defeat the Rochester Red Wings, 6-5 in International League play at Fifth Third Field, Saturday night.
Navarro worked a lead off walk before coming round to score the game winner on Hicks’s third hit of the night.
With the loss, Rochester (61-45) fell 3.5 games off the pace in the wildcard standings behind Lehigh Valley (65-42). The IronPigs defeated Durham, 2-1.
ByungHo Park paced a three-run Red Wing first with a two-run home run – his eighth round tripper of the season.
Byron Buxton collected an RBI with a one-out single in the fourth as the Wings took a 5-1 lead.
But the Mud Hens sent eight to the plate and scored three runs, all with two outs, in the eighth to knot the game. Dominic Ficociello drove in JaCoby Jones and John Hicks with a single to even the score at five.
Six different Wings collected two hits on the night as part of a 16-hit attack. Rochester left 13 on base and finished 2-for-18 with runners in scoring position.
Toledo’s Logan Kensing worked two shutout innings for the win. He is 2-2 on the season.
Nik Turley took the loss. The left-hander is 4-4 on the year.
