Tyler Glasnow allowed one run on four hits over seven innings, and the Indianapolis Indians downed the Rochester Red Wings, 5-2 in International League action at Victory Field, Tuesday night.
Glasgow struck out seven, walked three and improved to 6-0 on the season.
With the loss, Rochester (58-44) fell 4.5 games behind Lehigh Valley (63-40) in the wildcard standings. Five IronPig hurlers combined on a three-hit shutout to beat Gwinnett, 5-0.
Matt Hague finished 3-for-4 and connected on his eighth home run of the season – a solo shot in the sixth, but the Wings fell behind early.
Kevin Newman worked a one-out in the Indianapolis first, stole second and scored on a Joey Terdoslavich double to give Indianapolis a lead it did not surrender.
Rochester native Christopher Bostick capped a three-run Indianapolis second with an RBI fielder’s choice. Phil Gosselin led the frame with a double. Danny Ortiz followed with a single. After Gosselin scored on a passed ball, Gift Ngoepe walked and eventually scored on an error.
Hector Santiago took the loss. The left-hander on rehab managed to get just three outs and allowed three runs on four hits.
Drew Rucinski hurled four shutout inning in relief.
Kennys Vargas went 2-for-3 as Hague and Vargas combined for five of Rochester’s seven hits.
The Wings left seven on base and finished 1-for-4 with runners in scoring position.
The series continues with a 1:35 start on Wednesday.
