ROCHESTER, NY – In a Minor League Baseball first, the Red Wings and Lehigh Valley IronPigs will each don monochromatic uniforms as part of the “Color Rush Series” that kicks off on Friday, July 14 at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA. Fans in Rochester will get to experience the rush on Thursday, August 3 when Lehigh Valley visits the Wings at Frontier Field.
Rochester’s all-red uniform combination is a return to the club’s classic look of the late 1970’s. The old-school motif features the word “Red Wings” across the jersey front and a traditional red, white and blue piping combination. The Wings uniform will be completed with matching red pants and current, red alternate cap featuring the white, script “R”.
This uniform was the primary home look for Joe Altobelli’s 1976 division-winning club that won 88 games. Only one other Red Wings team has won more games in a season in the 40 years since (89 in 1990). In 1977, these threads became Rochester’s road uniform.
The IronPigs’ Color Rush uniform consists of an all-black combination – a tribute to the Lehigh Valley’s unparalleled steelmaking history – in a return to the on-field look worn by the club during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The IronPigs were the first team in professional baseball history to wear an all-black uniform combination. The uniform also features the IronPigs’ popular black “Molten” cap, a jet-black jersey with steel-plated chrome lettering and all black pants with IronPigs’ Steel piping.
The Wings’ Thursday, August 3 game also features a pre-game happy hour from 6 to 7 p.m. that includes $2 Labatt Blue and Blue Light drafts, live music from the Neil Van Dorn Band and tailgate games – Wing Pong and Cornhole. Every Thursday is College Night and students with a valid student ID can purchase a $10 reserved ticket that includes $5 Diamond Dollars good for concessions or merchandise.
Single-game tickets can be purchased at the Red Wings Ticket Office open Monday–Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., over the phone at 423-WING (9464) or around-the-clock at RedWingsBaseball.com.
