CINCINNATI – Xavier baseball head coach Scott Googins is departing the program after 12 seasons, announcing Tuesday he is accepting the same position at the University of Cincinnati.
“I want to thank Scott for all that he has done for Xavier,” said Xavier University Director of Athletics Greg Christopher. “He has taken Xavier Baseball to a new level and we know he will do a great job growing the Cincinnati program. We wish Scott well. He has created a solid foundation here at Xavier and we have all the ingredients necessary to continue to compete for BIG EAST Championships and play in the post-season. We will find the right coach to help build on the success we’ve had.”
Googins led Xavier to a 341-357 (.489) record during his 12 seasons at the helm of the program, setting the all-time mark for wins at XU and winning four conference tournament titles since 2009.
Under Googins, XU has captured three BIG EAST titles in just four years as a member of the conference.
The Granville, Ohio native played college baseball at Ohio Wesleyan, serving in coaching roles at OWU, Indiana and Miami (OH) before accepting the job at Xavier.
