Mohawk Valley 5
Matt Smith finished 4-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored as Mohawk Valley improved to 2-0 on the young season. The Diamond Dawg left fielder snapped a one-all tie in the third inning with a leadoff solo shot that proved to be the game winner. Jonathan McKinney allowed one run on four hits over seven innings for the win. The right-hander from Marietta, GA. struck out four, walked one and threw 96 pitches – 54 for strikes. Eric Rivera went 2-for-3 with an RBI for Amsterdam.
Albany 2
Glens Falls 6
Anthony Vaglica collected three hits including a two-run home run in the sixth – his second in as many games, and Glens Falls (1-1) won its first game of the season. Vaglica drove in three runs and scored a run finishing the night 3-for-5 at the plate. Alex Phillips surrendered two runs on five hits over six innings for the win. The left-hander struck out eight and walked four. Dan Lowndes was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run scored for the Dragons. Tom Taplin hurled two shutout innings in relief for Glens Falls. Albany’s Brandt Holland went 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.
Adirondack 2
Utica 7
Jared Tietgen hurled six shutout innings, and Utica won its opener. Tietgen struck out two, walked four and allowed three hits. Logan Foster came out of the bullpen and picked up a save throwing three innings. Taylor Olmstead went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base for the Blue Sox. Evan Lee was 2-for-3 with a walk, double and run scored. Adirondack’s Bailey Collins finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Newark 3
Geneva 4
The Red Wings sent eight to the plate and scored three runs to walk off in the bottom of the ninth. Geneva took advantage of five walks and an error for the three-run rally. Matt Chamberlain finished 2-for-4 including Geneva’s only hit in the decisive inning. Mikey Arman brought in a run with a sacrifice fly. John Balliet, Peter Battaglia, Jonathan Parker and Graham Hackbarth collected two hits apiece in a losing effort.
Saugerties 12
Elmira 15
Casey Oliver finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored for Elmira. Anthony Nucerino was 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
