Wings win in 12 innings, 3-2

The Indians struck first in the top of the second inning off Red Wings starter Nik Turley. Eric Wood hit an RBI single down the third base line to give Indianapolis an early 1-0 lead.

Indianapolis starter Steven Brault looked impressive to begin the game, allowing no runs while striking out five through three innings. Rochester had seven batters reach base in the first four innings, including two leadoff hits, but two double plays quickly ended any Rochester scoring opportunity.

Joey Terdoslavich extended the Indians’ lead to 2-0 with a solo home run in the top of the fifth.

The Red Wings got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning with a bases loaded walk to Niko Goodrum, cutting the Indians lead to 2-1.

Brault was replaced following the RBI walk. He pitched 4.2 innings, allowing one earned run on six hits, five walks and five strikeouts. He threw 107 pitches – 62 for strikes.

Trevor Hildenberger came in for Turley to begin the sixth inning. Turley finished with 5 innings of work, giving up two earned runs on five hits, no walks and five strikeouts. He threw 88 pitches – 55 for strikes.

Hildenberger did a nice job to keep the Indianapolis lead to one before being replaced by Buddy Boshers with two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Hildenberger retired eight out of ten batters faced, allowing only one hit over 2.2 innings pitched. Hildenberger struck out five.

The Wings put the tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth against former Wing Pat Light. Zack Granite reached first on an error, and hustled all the way around to third base when Matt Haguegrounded out to shortstop. A sacrifice fly from Daniel Palka brought home Granite to tie the game at 2-2. Mitch Garver walked, and advanced to third base when Goodrum lined a single.

Drew Rucinski pitched the 10th,11th, and 12th innings,allowing one hit and striking out two.

With first baseman Joey Terdoslavich brought on to pitch, the Wings loaded the bases with one out in the 12th. Granite slapped a 2-0 pitch to right-center for the game-winning hit.

Granite and Palka continued their hot hitting, extending their hitting streaks to 13 and 10 games, respectively. Garver walked four times, as Indians pitchers issued 10 walks in the game. Wings pitchers did not issue a walk, and racked up 12 strikeouts.

The Wings out-hit the Indians 12-7. Both managers were ejected in the contest by home plate umpire Jeremy Riggs; Mike Quade in the third inning, and Andy Barkett in the ninth inning.
