Tournament MVP Kyle Rollins poured in a game-high 26 points including a key bucket late in the fourth quarter as the No. 8-seed Geneseo Blue Devils defeated No. 3-seed Caledonia-Mumford Red Raiders, 52-49 in overtime to claim the Section Five C2 title.
The championship was a program first in more than a decade.
Rollins, who also grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds, finished 9 of 19 from the floor including three of five behind the arc and five of eight from the free throw line.
Trailing by six, the 6-foot-6 senior forward nailed a triple with 1:35 remaining in regulation. Teammate Brian Linton converted a traditional three-point play with :42 on the clock to send the game into overtime.
Geneseo trailed 24-16 at half and 35-29 after three quarters.
Linton and Rollins combined to score 13 of Geneseo’s 18 fourth-quarter points.
Linton scored 13 on 3-of-4 shooting from the floor and 7 of 10 from the free throw line.
Vin Molisani paced Cal-Mum with 14 points. Rich Estes and Ian Lenhardt tallied 10 apiece. Lenhardt hauled in a game-high 13 rebounds, and Cal-Mum had a 39-33 advantage on the board. The Red Raiders outscored Geneseo in second-chance points (13-11) and points off turnovers (10-6).
Geneseo won the 2002 Class C title when Tournament MVP Brian Bennett led the fifth-seed Blue Devils past Campbell-Savona, 69-50.
Daniel Kay and Linton joined Rollins on the All-Tournament team. Estes and Lenhardt represented Cal-Mum while East Rochester’s Shamire Caraway and Justice Smith of Lyons rounded out the team.
