BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior third baseman Chris Kwitzer was named Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Monday afternoon, as announced by the conference office. This marks the first time in Kwitzer’s career that he has been recognized as Player of the Week.
Kwitzer finished off his impressive week at the dish batting a team-best .538 (7-for-13) with a slugging percentage of 1.154 and an on base percentage of .600. The senior scored a team-high seven runs to go along with three doubles, a triple, a home run, four RBI and 15 total bases as he led the Bulls to their first series win of the season, downing Murray State twice in the three-game series.
In the series opener against the Racers, Kwitzer nearly collected his first career cycle as he went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, home run, three runs scored, three RBI and a walk as Buffalo earned the 12-10 win. He then went 3-for-5 with a run and a RBI in the loss on Saturday before finishing the weekend going 1-for-4 with a team-high three runs scored in the series clinching victory over the Racers.
Through six games this season, Kwitzer is batting a team-best .435 with seven runs, three doubles, a home run and seven RBI while collecting three multi-hit games. His .783 slugging percentage and .536 on base percentage are tops on the team while he is a perfect 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts.
Kwitzer and the Bulls return to the diamond on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm as they open up a three-game series at James Madison.
