ROCHESTER, NY – Three strikes and you’re out. Those are the rules. And despite swinging and missing each of the last two years, Rochester Red Wings General Manager Dan Mason is back again to make a bold guarantee regarding the weather for the Home Opener on Friday, April 14 at 1:35 p.m.
“2017 marks the 60th season of Rochester Community Baseball and throughout the year our goal will be to bring the Rochester community together at Frontier Field,” Mason said. “The Home Opener is always a special day. Even though I’ve swung and missed each of the last two years, I guarantee it will be 50 degrees on Opening Day or each ticket will be good for another Red Wings home game in April or May at Frontier Field.”
The historical average high temperature in Rochester on April 14 is 55 degrees. The thermometer in right field has not been above 43 degrees during the Home Opener the last two seasons, meaning all fans in attendance received a ticket to any Red Wings home game in April or May.
Tickets for the Home Opener will go on sale exclusively at RedWingsBaseball.com at 9 a.m. on Thursday, February 23 – 50 days from the opener. Fans can also purchase Season Seats, Mini-Plans or Diamond Debit, on sale now, by calling 454-1001 to secure Home Opener tickets as part of each package.
The Red Wings have also produced a video to make the announcement. Special thanks to Rochester meteorologists Scott Hetsko, Glenn Johnson, Stacey Pensgen and Kevin Williams for their work in the video.
Thursday marks exactly 50 days until the Home Opener and the Red Wings Team Store is offering special 50% discounts on t-shirts (excluding Under Armour), New Era on-field fitted hats and other select items. Offers valid in person and online at RedWings.MiLBStore.com on Thursday, February 23 only.
