NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – George Washington graduate student Tyler Cavanaugh and Massachusetts junior Donte Clark were chosen as the Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week while Saint Joseph’s freshman Charlie Brown was chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday and presented by Come Ready Nutrition, are for games played Feb. 6-12.
Cavanaugh put on a pair of career-best performances while averaging 23.0 points and 13.5 rebounds as GW split games with VCU and St. Bonaventure. The Syracuse, N.Y., product matched a career-high against VCU with 17 rebounds, snagging 11 on the defensive end and six on the offensive glass, while tallying 13 points for a double-double. He also added three steals and an assist without a turnover in 34 minutes. Then, against St. Bonaventure, Cavanaugh willed GW to a 76-70 victory by pouring in a career-high 33 points on 9-of-19 (.474) shooting from the field, including 2-of-3 (.667) 3-pointers. The forward did much of his work at the free throw line, knocking down a career-high 13-of-14 (.929) from the charity stripe, and then notched his third-straight double-double with 10 boards.
Clark averaged 27.0 points per game in a split week for the Minutemen. He shot 60.9 percent overall (14-of-23) including 41.7 percent from 3-point land (5-for-12) while he was an efficient 21-of-26 at the foul line (.808). The Charlotte, N.C., native had a career-high-tying 30 points against Rhode Island and followed up with a game-high 24 at Saint Joseph’s. The guard scored 19 first half points versus Rhode Island and finished with 30 points, including seven in final two minutes. He shot 5-for-7 overall (4-of-6 on 3-pointers) for 18 first half points in 18 minutes at SJU, and then closed with six points in the last minute to seal the victory.
Brown averaged 16.0 points and 6.5 rebounds in Saint Joseph’s two games last week. A Philadelphia native, he shot 42 percent (8-for-19) from 3-point range, making four threes in each game. The forward scored 17 points and five rebounds at Dayton, and then had 15 points and team-high eight rebounds versus UMass. Helping anchor a depleted Hawks team, Brown played all 40 minutes of both games last week.

Dayton’s Xeyrius Williams had two strong games in wins over Saint Joseph’s and Rhode Island, including drilling a pair of 3-pointers in the final 19 seconds to rally the Flyers to a victory over Rhody … Freshman Mike Lewis II scored 24 points for Duquesne in front of his hometown crowd against Saint Louis, tying his career-high with five 3-pointers … Marquise Moore had back-to-back double-doubles last week for George Mason, with 16 points and 11 boards at Davidson, where he also scored five late points to hold off a Wildcat rally, followed by and 15 points and 11 rebounds against Fordham … La Salle’s B.J. Johnson scored 26 points with eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in a road win at Fordham, followed by an 18-point performance against Richmond … Hassan Martin became just the second Rhode Island player to tally at least 300 career blocked shots with three blocks versus UMass, and he now sits in eighth all-time in the A-10 in blocks … Rhody freshman Jeff Dowtin had seven assists, three blocks and three steals while shooting 50 percent from the field for the Rams … Richmond freshman Nick Sherod scored 16 points on 7-of-16 (.438) shooting with three steals in Richmond road win at La Salle … Jaylen Adams averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 assists over St. Bonaventure’s two games last week, which the Bonnies split … Davell Roby was 6-of-8 (.750) from the field, and 4-for-4 (1.000) from three for 20 points with three rebounds and six assists for Saint Louis in a win over Duquesne … Billiken freshman Jalen Johnson had 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four blocks in the SLU win over Duquesne …. Justin Tillman averaged 12 points, and had a monster week on the glass, with 11 rebounds at George Washington and 16 versus Davidson in a pair of wins for VCU.
