ST. LOUIS (USBWA) – The U.S. Basketball Writers Association has selected UConn guard/forward Katie Lou Samuelson as its Ann Meyers Drysdale Women’s National Player of the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Jan. 22. The USBWA’s weekly honor will be handed out each Tuesday through mid-February this season.
As the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, Samuelson was nominated for the weekly award, which was chosen by Mel Greenberg, the USBWA coordinator for women’s basketball, from a list of Division I conference players of the week.
Samuelson, a 6-3 sophomore from Huntingdon Beach, Calif., averaged 33 points for the top-ranked and unbeaten Huskies in two wins, shooting 24-36 from the field for a 66.7 percentage, also shooting 57.9 percent on attempted 3-pointers. She also averaged 4.0 steals. She has two older sisters, Bonnie, a former star, and Karlie, a current star, with nationally-ranked Stanford.
