Canisius junior Jermaine Crumpton has been named the MAAC’s Player of the Week, the conference office announced today (Jan. 16). Crumpton averaged 22.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last week as the Golden Griffins defeated Fairfield and Marist.

In the win at Fairfield Jan. 10, Crumpton recorded his first career double-double after he scored a career-high 32 points to go along with a career best 10 boards. He finished the night be going 11-for-19 from the floor against the Stags, and he also hit on 10 of his 12 charity tosses. He scored 17 of his 32 points in the game’s second half, and he also grabbed eight of his 10 rebounds after the intermission. The 32-point, 10-rebound effort marked the first time a Canisius player was good for 30-or more points and 10-or more rebounds in a regulation game since former Griff Darren Fenn had 32 points and 11 rebounds in a home win over Iona Jan. 8, 2000.

The Niagara Falls, New York native scored 13 points and pulled down five rebounds in Canisius’ 91-58 win over Marist Jan. 14. Those 13 points extended his straight of game with double-digits in the scoring column to 13 straight. He ranks second on the team and fifth in the MAAC in scoring average with 17.2 points per game, and he ranks fifth in the league in field goal percentage at 54.1 percent.

Canisius, which has won two straight, four of its last five and nine of its last 10, returns to action Monday night when the team plays host to Monmouth. Tipoff in the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 7 p.m.
