ROCHESTER, NY – The Minnesota Twins have signed outfielder J.B. Shuck to a minor league contract with an invite to Major League Spring Training.
Shuck spent all of last season in the Chicago White Sox organization, hitting .205/.248/.299 with 27 runs, five doubles, two triples, four home runs and 14 RBI in 81 MLB games. The former Ohio State Buckeye made the White Sox 25-man roster to open 2016 but appeared in just four games before he was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on April 19. With the Knights, Shuck hit .299/.339/.422 with 20 runs, nine doubles, two triples, two homers and 17 RBI in 37 games and hit safely in his final 11 Triple-A games before being recalled to the majors on May 30. Shuck was optioned again to Triple-A on August 1 but was recalled on August 3 before appearing in a game for Charlotte.
The former sixth-round selection in 2008 by Houston has appeared in 364 MLB games over five seasons with the White Sox, Indians, Angels and Astros. He finished fifth in the American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2013 with Los Angeles.
