Canisius forward Phil Valenti (Aquinas) reached the 1,000-point plateau when the senior knocked down a catch-and-shoot three from the top of the arc at the 15:58 mark of the first half of Monday night’s contest. Valenti finished the night with 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting including 5-of-6 from behind the arc as Canisius defeated Albany, 77-64.
“At that point I was just worried about the game, just getting a win,” Valenti said after the game. “I knew it (the milestone) was coming up some time. It’s just been a good career. A lot of hard work and a lot of good teammates.”
Valenti leads the Golden Griffins and ranks 12th in the MAAC with 6.2 rebounds per game. Canisius plays the University at Buffalo in Saturday’s Big 4 Classic held at the Key Bank Center.
Valenti hits a trey from the top of the key, and becomes the 35th member of the school’s 1,000-point club. Congratulations, Phil. pic.twitter.com/pkAEXM4uVq
