Kempton and Nelson earn weekly Patriot League honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – For the third time this season Lehigh senior center/forward Tim Kempton has been named the Patriot League Men’s Basketball The Rock Player of the Week. Kempton averaged 29.0 points and 13.5 rebounds over two games for the Mountain Hawks to earn the distinction.

American freshman guard Sa’eed Nelson earns his second The Rock Rookie of the Week honor, after averaging 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.5 steals over two games for the Eagles. The freshman is second in the League in scoring (16.0 ppg), while leading the League in steals (2.9 spg).

Boston University junior forward Cedric Hankerson makes the honor roll for the first time this season after finishing one 3-pointer shy of the Patriot League single-game record, hitting 10 against Syracuse on Saturday. Bucknell junior center Nana Foulland is an honorable mention selection after his fourth double-double of the season led the Bison to a win over Fairfield in their lone game last week. Holy Cross senior guard Robert Champion earns honorable mention for the second-consecutive week after filling the stat sheet in a 1-1 week for the Crusaders. Navy junior guard Shawn Anderson rounds out the honorable mentions after scoring the game-winner in the Mids historic comeback against Bryant last week.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL THE ROCK PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tim Kempton, Lehigh, Sr., 6-10, C/F, Scottsdale, Ariz./Brophy College Prep
Kempton averaged 29.0 points per game and 13.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week for the Mountain Hawks. He scored a career-high 31 points, while tying career-highs in rebounds (18) and blocks (3) to help defeat Mount St. Mary’s, 90-71 on Saturday. Earlier in the week, Kempton finished with 27 points, including a career-high four made 3-pointers in a loss to Stony Brook. He is currently ninth in the NCAA, averaging 23.0 points per game.

PATRIOT LEAGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL THE ROCK ROOKIE OF THE WEEK,
Sa’eed Nelson, American, Fr., 6-1, G, Pleasantville, N.J./Saint Augustine Prep
Nelson averaged 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for American. Against Youngstown State, Nelson led the Eagles with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting, to go with nine rebounds, five assists and four steals. He also scored a team-high 21 points and had three steals in a loss to New Hampshire earlier in the week. Nelson leads the League and is ninth in the nation with 2.9 steals per game.

WEEKLY HONORABLE MENTION
Cedric Hankerson, Boston University, Jr., 6-5, G, Miami, Fla./Coral Reef
Hankerson averaged 26.0 points per game, while shooting 50 percent from the floor and 53.6 percent from deep in a 0-2 week for the Terriers. Against Syracuse on Saturday, Hankerson broke a Boston University record and finished one shy of the Patriot League record for 3-pointers in a single game with 10. Hankerson finished with 34 points, shooting 10-of-20 from deep, against the Orange. He also led BU with 18 points in a loss to Canisius earlier in the week. His previous career-high for 3-pointers in a game was five.

Nana Foulland, Bucknell, Jr., 6-9, Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic
Foulland recorded his fourth double-double of the season scoring 23 points and pulling down 11 rebounds to help Bucknell defeat Fairfield, 75-64. Foulland shot 11-of-15 from the floor, helping the Bison hold a 50-24 advantage in points in the paint. He also blocked two shots and picked up three steals and did not commit a turnover.

Robert Champion, Holy Cross, Sr., 6-6, G, Charlotte, N.C./Charlotte Catholic
Champion averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.5 steals per game in a 1-1 week for the Crusaders. The senior also shot 61.5 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from beyond the arc. Champion led Holy Cross to a 75-57 win over Quinnipiac, scoring a team-high 28 points, shooting 11-of-15 from the field, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range. He also had six rebounds, four assists and five steals against the Bobcats. He also finished with 13 points and eight rebounds in a two-point loss to Maine earlier in the week.

Shawn Anderson, Navy, Jr., 6-4, G, New Castle, Pa./New Castle
Anderson averaged 15.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game without any turnovers during a 2-0 week for Navy. Anderson scored the game-winner with 13 seconds remaining in the Mids 25-point comeback victory over Bryant on Tuesday. He finished with nine points, eight rebounds and three assists against the Bulldogs. Anderson also finished with a game-high 21 points in a win over Columbia, where Navy’s defense held the Lions 23 points under their season average.
