AMHERST, Mass. – Junior guard Donte Clark led a dozen Minutemen in the scoring column with 12 points as balance keyed Massachusetts men’s basketball to a 72-48 victory over Pacific at the Mullins Center on Thursday in the first game of the Gotham Classic. UMass improved to 6-2 on the season with the win while the Tigers fell to 3-5 following their first-ever trip to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Luwane Pipkins chipped in nine points, three steals and as many assists. A trio of Minutemen collected eight points – C.J. Anderson, Seth Berger and Malik Hines – while Hines took home the game’s Most Outstanding Player award with five rebounds, two assists, a pair of blocks and one steal over 17 turnover-free minutes on the court. George Mason 85 Penn State 66
Senior Marquise Moore led the Patriots with a career-best 25 points to go along with a game-high 13 rebounds. Moore also dished out five assists and grabbed three steals in 36 minutes on the floor. READ MORE.

The Bonnies led 48-36 at halftime but saw the Pride come back to take the lead early in the second half. Hofstra led 72-68 with 5:17 left but Jaylen Adams and Matt Mobley sparked the comeback. Mobley’s three-pointer with 4:03 left gave St. Bonaventure a 73-72 lead, and the Bonnies’ defense made a final stand, limiting the Pride to a lone three-pointer the rest of the way. READ MORE.

Rhode Island 51 Old Dominion 39
The Rams (6-3) held Old Dominion (5-3) to 29 percent from the floor (14-of-48) to snap a two-game skid and get the victory. Rhody’s defense limited the Monarchs to 17 first-half points, as the Rams established a double-digit lead at the break. Rhode Island led 31-17 at the half, thanks to an E.C. Matthews’ 3-pointer just before the buzzer. The 17 points was a season low for Old Dominion. READ MORE.

PHILADELPHIA — In its third game in five days and without two critical pieces in junior Yuta Watanabe and grad student Patrick Steeves, GW men’s basketball exuded the next-man-up mentality at Temple and escaped with a 66-63 win against its former A-10 foe, who entered the game on a five-game winning streak. PHILADELPHIA – Sophomore Pookie Powell scored a career-high 27 points, including 20 in the second half, as the La Salle University men’s basketball team battled No. 1 Villanova for the full 40 minutes.
