Athena’s Lamb continues to deliver for Vermont

A glance at the Section Five alums competing at the collegiate level.

After earning America East Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, Anthony Lamb (Greece Athena) scored 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting as the Vermont Catamounts fell to then No. 20 South Carolina, 68-50. Lamb collected three rebounds and a steal in 23 minutes of work. He averaged nine points and 4.8 rebounds to lead the Catamounts to a 3-1 mark the previous week. Lamb is averaging  10.8 points and 5.8 rebounds. Vermont hosts Dartmouth Wednesday night.

Other Section Five alums:

Phil Valenti (Aquinas) converted two free throws with 32 seconds on the clock to seal a 77-76 Canisius win in their MAAC opener at Manhattan.  Valenti scores 11.9 points and grabs 6.1 rebounds a game for the Golden Griffins.

Speaking of Canisius, former Livonia star and current Victor head coach Kevin Downey will be inducted in the Canisius Hall of Fame later this season:

Quinton Rose (Bishop Kearney) averaged 10 points, 4.5 and two assists in a pair of Philadelphia Big 5 victories for Temple last week. Rose and the Owls improved to 6-2 on the season and have won five straight.

Emmitt Holt (Webster Schroeder) scored six points, grabbed five rebounds and blocked three shots in Providence’s 63-60 victory over then No. 21 Rhode Island. Holt averages 12.6 points and 5.6 rebounds. The Friars host Brown University Tuesday night before playing UMass on FSI Saturday at noon.

Antwoine Anderson (Bishop Kearney) averages 11.6 points and 2.6 assists for Fordham. The Rams play St. John’s Thursday night on FS1. A 6:30 pm tipoff is scheduled.

Thomas Bryant (Bishop Kearney) leads No. 9 Indiana with 7.9 rebounds. The sophomore center scores 12.3 a game while handing out 1.3 assists.

Dontay Caruthers (East) averages two assists and 1.6 steals for the University at Buffalo. The sophomore guard scores 3.7 points and grabs 2.7 rebounds in 23 minutes of work for the Bulls. UB plays at Pittsburgh Tuesday night.

Chinonso Obokoh (Bishop Kearney) has been nursing an injured knee and has not played in St. Bonaventure’s last two contests.

Deyshonee Much (Gates-Chili) has been day-to-day for Iona with a sprained knee.

Tyler Stenglein (Irondequoit) earned Empire 8 weekly honors. Stenglein led the Nazareth College Golden Flyers with 18.7 points, eight rebounds and 3.7 assists last week.

Jake Fenlon (McQuaid) matched a career high with seven 3-pointers to lead the University of Chicago. READ MORE.
