HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Following the opening weekend of the collegiate basketball season, Northern Kentucky’s Carson Williams was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week.
Williams was outstanding in the two outings over the first three days of competition. He opened with a game-high 15 points in NKU’s win over Earlham, but elevated play even more in Northern Kentucky’s second outing.
In a hostile road environment at Illinois, Williams posted his first-career double-double with 10 points and game-high 14 boards. He also chipped in with five assists. The Owenton, Ky. (Owen County HS), native had eight points and eight boards at the break to help NKU to a 33-31 halftime lead.
Williams averaged 10.5 points and 8.5 boards across the first two outings.
The Norse will be in action at the Tarkett Sports Classic from Nov. 18-20. Miami (Ohio) hosts the event at John D. Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio. The Norse open the tournament against Austin Peay at 5:00 p.m. Friday.
