Semi-Finals Preview: Section V Class B Boys Soccer

No.1 Pal-Mac (15-2/10-2 Finger Lakes East) vs. No. 4 Bath-Haverling (13-3-2/6-2 Livingston County 1)

How they got here: Pal-Mac defeated No. 9 Penn Yan, 5-0 in the quarter-final round. Bath opened sectionals with a 3-0 win over No. 13 Waterloo before edging No. 5 Wayland-Cohocton, 2-1 to advance to the semi-finals.

This is the first meeting of the season between the two teams. Pal-Mac defeated Livonia, 2-1. Bath fell twice to the Bulldogs, 3-1 & 3-2. Pal-Mac beat Penn Yan twice. Bath defeated the Mustangs once.

Pal-Mac has won a dozen in a row. Bath has five straight victories.

Bath-Haverling – Nick Strong (7 goals, 3 assists), Chris Hyer (5 goals, 3 assists), Ethan Buckley (4 goals, 3 assists), Aron Helander (4 goals, 2 assists), Jonathan Deats (26 saves, 683 mins. played, 0.469 GAA), Griffin Yastremski 53 saves, 800 mins., 0.800 GAA).

History 101: Pal-Mac fell in last year’s final to Livonia. Pal-Mac is looking for its first sectional championship since sharing the B title in 1997. Bath won or shared five straight titles from 2007-2011. The Rams lost to Livonia, 3-0 in the 2014 final.

No. 2 Livonia (15-3/7-1 Livingston County 1) vs. No. 3 Mynderse (14-4/9-3 Finger Lakes East)

How they got here: Livonia opened the sectionals with a 12-0 victory over No. 15 Midlakes before advancing to the semi-finals with a 6-1 win over No. 7 Hornell. Mynderse knocked off No. 14 Attica, 6-1 and defeated No. 6 Greece Odyssey, 2-1 in the quarter-final round.

Livonia won 14 straight before dropping its regular season finale to Pal-Mac. Mynderse has won four in a row.

Names to know: Livonia – Kyle Feldman (12 goals, 10 assists), Tavian Hino (11 goals, 2 assists), Mark Brado (9 goals, 6 assists), Troy Rossborough (9 goals, 6 assists), Dustin Conine (8 goals, 12 assists), Matthew Freeman (7 goals, 4 assists), Barrett Lowe (77 saves, 1,084 mins., 0.738 GAA).

Mynderse – Brett Anderson (28 goals, 1 assist), Jake Jones (4 goals, 10 assists), Quinten Battle (3 goals, 6 assists), Evan Barnett (4 goals, 3 assists), Jake Mein (73 saves, 1,025 mins, 0.780 GAA).

History 101: Livonia has won the last three titles outright and shared the 2012 championship with Greece Odyssey. Mynderse is looking for its first sectional championship since 2003. Mynderse reached the 2013 C1 finals.

A 7:30 p.m. start time is scheduled Wednesday at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School.
