PISCATAWAY, N.J. (Sept. 12, 2016) – Rutgers football senior Janarion Grant was named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The wide receiver took a kickoff return 84 yards for a touchdown, the fifth of his career. Grant helped key the Scarlet Knights’ 52-14 victory over Howard Saturday.
Grant added a pair of touchdowns on offense as he carried five times for a career-high 105 yards. He became the first Rutgers wide receiver to gain 100 yards on the ground since Jeremy Deering had 166 yards versus Syracuse in 2010. Grant moved into fourth in school history with 248 all-purpose yards, raising his career total to 4,004 yards.
The performance against Howard marked the 10th game of Grant’s career with at least 150 all-purpose yards. It was also his second multiple touchdown game with three touchdowns against the Bison. Grant owns 11 career touchdowns scored (five kickoff return, three rushing, two punt return, one receiving) overall plus one passing in 40 games.
This marks the fourth career conference special teams player of the week award for Grant and third since the beginning of last season.
Rutgers returns to High Point Solutions Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 17 to face New Mexico at noon. The game will air live nationally on ESPNews.
