HOUGHTON, N. Y.  – The Olean Oilers defeated the Genesee Rapids 9-3 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action Thursday night at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex. In doing so, Olean matched the league record for regular-season wins with 38.

Samuel Kysor (Lock Haven) led the game with a ground-rule double. David Hollins (St. Petersburg) brought Kysor in for the first run of the night, and the Oilers never trailed.

Austin Bizzle (Alabama State) retired the first eight batters he faced and did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. The three-year NYCBL veteran allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits over seven innings. He fanned seven and walked two. In his sixth start and seventh appearance of the season, Bizzle improved to 6-0.

“That’s him (Bizzle) on a regular basis,” said Oilers head coach Bobby Bell. “When he comes out, he’s on the strike zone and he’s sharp. He’s tough to hit. I know we will rely on him during playoffs. He’ll be a big arm for us.”

Mark Koloszvary (Florida) reached on an error to lead the second. David Yanni (Pittsburgh) stretched a single to a double to put runners on second and third.  Both Kolosvary and Yanni crossed home plate after a passed ball to make the score 3-0.

Olean went on to score two more runs in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the sixth to round out a 7-0 lead before the Rapids were able to get on the board.

In the bottom of the seventh, Genesee got the ball rolling when Joe Chapman (Cedarville) advanced to first on a walk. Grant Myers (Monmouth Col) went deep to the fence for an RBI double to give the Rapids the first run of the night. Jacob Burlingame (Canisius) singled to left field and moved Myers to third. Hunter Sykes (Mississippi Col) was safe at first on an overthrow and that allowed for Myers to score to make the score 7-2 before the side retired.

Genesee made their last push from the plate in the bottom of the eighth and scored one run on a sacrifice fly from Myers who plated Daniel Lockwood (St. Edwards) to make the score 7-3.

Olean pushed back and scored their final two runs in the ninth inning which was the eventual final score of 9-3.

Olean’s Nathan Grant (St. Bonaventure) struck out the side in order in the ninth to cap the win.

At the plate, Aaron Philips (St. Bonaventure) produced a per usual night as well going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Yanni finished 2-for-4.

The 2014 Hornell Dodgers finished the regular season 38-8. Olean has two more chances to break the record.

The Oilers will have a day off before back in action Saturday against those Dodgers at Bradner Stadium for a 7:00 P.M. start.

The Genesee Rapids travel to take on the Rochester Ridgemen, Friday. First pitch slated for 7:00 PM.
