HORNELL, N.Y. — In a game that the Hornell Dodgers could have clinched a playoff spot, the Genesee Rapids offense was too much and handed the Dodgers an 8-1 loss in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Maple City Park, Monday.
In the third the Rapids were first to put a run on the board when Daniel Lockwood (St. Edwards) connected on an RBI single.
The Rapids added two more runs to their total in the sixth. Pitcher Wes Brown (William Carey) helped his own cause knocking in an RBI single to left while William Lucas (Charleston) drove in another run on a two-out double.
In the seventh, Lockwood drew a bases loaded walk and in the eighth Genesee put the game out of reach with four more runs. Hunter Sykes (Mississippi) capitalized on a Dodger error to score from third while Phillip Wells (Baldwin-Wallace) hit a double to right driving in two more. Rounding out the Rapids scoring was Joseph Chapman (Cedarville) scoring on a Jacob Burlingame (Canisius) sacrifice fly widening their gap to 8-0
The Dodgers finally put their first run of the game on the board in the bottom end of the eighth. John Ricotta (Monroe CC) earned an RBI on a sacrifice fly to drive in Mick Wick (Webster). Wick had led off the inning with a double.

Jack Trotman (St. John Fisher) and Wick both went 2-for-3 at the dish for the Dodgers while Wells and Lucas both went 2-for-4 at the plate. Wells adding two RBI and Lucas adding one.
On top of a solid day a the plate, Brown went the distance on the mound. He allowed one run on six hits. He walked three and struck out four.
The win improves the Rapids to 16-25 and the loss takes the Dodgers to 20-22 on the year.
The Dodgers are off tomorrow but will be back at it again Wednesday in Wellsville playing the Nitros. First pitch with be thrown out at 5 p.m.
Genesee travels to Rochester on Thursday to play the Ridgemen. A 7 p.m. first pitch is scheduled at Basket Road Field.
