HORNELL, N.Y. — In a back and forth game the Hornell Dodgers pulled off the victory over the Genesee Rapids 11-10 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Maple City Park, Tuesday. The win improves the Dodgers to 19-18 on the year while the loss takes the Rapids to 12-25 on the season.
The Rapids were the first to get things going putting their first runs on the board in the third. After the bases had been loaded the first run of the inning was scored by Peter Bocchino (St. Michael’s) on a bases loaded walk. The final two runs came off the bat of Joseph Chapman (Cedarville) connected on a two-run single.
The Dodgers answered right back in the bottom half of the third with a four-run rally. Ty Reginelli (Wofford) hit an RBI triple to center and scored on the same play after an errant throw to home plate. John Ricotta (Monroe CC) gave the Dodgers their first lead with a two-run double.
In the fourth, the Rapids tied things back up with a sacrifice fly by Adam Reece (Salem International) before Dylan May (Wofford) hit a homer to Adsit St. to give the Dodgers back the lead.
Firing right back in the fifth, the Rapids scored three. Jacob Burlingame (Canisius) blasted a two-run double to center while Bocchino drove in a run with a single to left.
In the seventh the Dodgers scored six runs to retake the lead. came back to reta to score. Anthony Santoro (Monroe CC) smacked a solo homer down the left field line to get things started. The Dodgers tied the game and took the lead on back-to-back walks to Ricotta and Tage Johnson (Houghton). Zach Lopatka (Lackawanna) hit an RBI single while the final two runs of the inning came off a Rapid throwing error scoring two making the score 11-7.
The Rapids cut the Dodgers lead to two in the eighth. Pinch hitter Daniel Lockwood (St. Edwards) hit a two-run single to center to half the Dodger lead to 11-9.
In the 9th the Rapids tried to mount a comeback but could only muster up one run off on a RBI single by Mark McKenna (Canisius) cutting the Dodger lead to 11-10.
For the Dodgers, Mike Wick (Webster) went 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored while Lopatka and Santoro both went 2-for-4 with each adding an RBI.
For the Rapids McKenna and Bocchino both went 3-for-5 on the night.
Garret Alread (Houghton) got the win on the mound for the Dodgers putting in 2.1 innings of work. Alread allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out five. Jake Miller (Lackawanna) got the save tossing the final inning allowing one run on two hits while striking out one.
The Dodgers head on the road tomorrow in an East/West affair playing the Sherrill Silversmiths at Noyes Park. First pitch will be tossed out at 12:30 p.m.
Genesee is off until after the All-Star Game. The Rapids will return to Maple City Park on Friday for a 7 p.m. game.
