HORNELL, N.Y. — On a perfect night for baseball at Maple City Park the Hornell Dodgers walked off with a 5-4 victory over the Rochester Ridgemen in New York Collegiate Baseball League action.
The Dodgers were the first to put runs on the board scoring two in the third. Ty Reginelli (Wofford) hit a lead off single and advanced into scoring position following a sacrifice bunt by Jack Trotman (St. John Fisher). Reginelli proceeded to score on an Adam Fitzgibbon (Saginaw Valley State) single. John Ricotta (Monroe CC) hit an RBI double down the right field line to score Fitzgibbon and grab the early lead 2-0.
In the fourth the Dodgers added to their lead with a Trotman RBI two-out single to improve their lead to 3-0.
The Ridgemen rallied in the fifth tying things up scoring three and making it a new ball game. With the bases loaded Devin Cerrato (Covenant) knocked in two on an a single to center while Hayden Houts (Northern State) drove in the tying run with a RBI single of his own.
In the sixth the Dodgers regained their lead. With runners on second and third Fitzgibbon drove in Trotman from third on an infield single.
The Ridgemen fired right back in the seventh retying the game scoring a run of their own. After reaching base on an error Cerrato stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and finally scored on a wild pitch to tie it up at 4-4.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth. Zach Lopatka (Lackawanna) led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Tyler Burns (Trevecca Nazarene) layed down a sac bunt to move Lopatka over. On the play the Ridgemen made a throwing error that allowed Lopatka to score the game winning run.
For the Dodgers, Ricotta went 3-for-5 at the dish with an RBI while Reginelli went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored at the plate.
The Ridgemen’s Matt Jackson was 2-for-4 at the plate with a run scored.
Jake Miller (Lackawanna) got the win for the Dodgers recording two outs in the ninth. Connor Ryan (Mercyhurst) had a solid outting tossing 8.1 innings allowing four runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out six.
The win improves the Dodgers to 18-18 while the loss takes the Ridgemen to 8-29.
The Dodgers continue their two game homestand at Maple City Park tomorrow against the Genesee Rapids. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. The game is sponsored by HPG and will feature 50 cent hot dogs.
Rochester travels to Olean to take on the Oilers. A 7 p.m. first pitch is scheduled at Bradner Stadium.
