HOUGHTON , N.Y. – The Genesee Rapids fell to the Nitros 6-3 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action Monday night at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex.
Jacob Sims (Roane State CC) got the ball rolling for the Nitros with a double to right field. The ice was broken after a single from Carson Shrode (Tenesee Martin) and a wild pitch that brought home Sims.
More action followed but not until the fourth inning. Sims stepped up and sent a shot deep over the fence for a homerun, making the score 2-0. Cole Tracy (Finger Lakes CC) earned an RBI double and Nicolas Varda recorded an RBI single to tally two more runs before retiring the side at 4-0.
The score remained 4-0 until the Harry Montero Jr. (Bloomfield Col) went yard for a two-run home run making the score 6-0 in the seventh.
The Rapids scored their first run in response on a sacrifice fly from Mark McKenna (Canisius) to set the score to 6-1.
The Nitros offense was at a stalemate as Rapids pitcher Leshawn Perry (Summit U) allowed two runs on two hits to close out he night on the mound.
In their last attempt at the plate, the “Rapids Rally” started off with a triple from Daniel Lockwood (St. Edward’s). Wes Brown (William Carey) laid down a grounder to plate Lockwood making the score 6-2. Grant Myers (Monmouth) recorded an RBI double for their final run resulting in the final score of 6-3.
Multiple hit performances from Wellsville included Max Franzone (Dominican Col) 2-for-4 and Sims 2-for-4.
Nitros pitcher, Michael DEletto (Central Methodist), threw for eight innings while only giving up one run on seven hits and striking out eight.
Mike Webb will be credited with the loss after six innings while giving up four runs on six hits.
The two teams will meet again Wednesday night in Wellsville at 5:00 PM .
