HORNELL, N.Y. –The Hornell Dodgers fell behind early and couldn’t ever charge back losing to the Rochester Ridgemen 11-7 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action, Monday. The Dodgers are now 12-14 on the year while the Ridgemen improve to 6-18.

The Ridgemen were the first to get things going on the scoreboard with a three run third. Joseph Done (Northwestern) was the first to drive in runs for the Ridgemen with a two-run double. Casey Claflin (Northwestern Ohio) scored Ethan Luna (Southwestern) on an RBI ground out to round the scoring and bring the score to 3-0.

The runs kept coming for the Ridgemen in the fourth scoring another four to boost their lead to 7-0. Bram Wood (Olney Central) smacked a two-run double to the right center gap to add the first two runs. Luna added an RBI single while Done followed with another RBI double.

The Dodgers offense finally got things going in the fifth when Tyler Burns (Trevecca Nazarene) led off the inning with a solo home run to straight away center. Adam Fitzgibbon (Saginaw Valley) drove in an RBI grounder that was misplayed and allowed two runs to score. Connor Brandon (Concordia-Chicago) drove in Mike Wick (Webster) on a groundout and cutting into the Ridgemen’s lead 7-4.

Connor Brown (Ohio Wesleyan) widened the Ridgemen’s lead with a two-run single.

Both teams scored a run a piece in the eighth. Jared Piper (Hillsdale) hit a solo homer down the left field line and Jack Trotman (St. John Fisher) hit a RBI double for the Dodgers.

After the Ridgemen got a RBI triple by Brown in the ninth the Dodgers tried to mount a comeback. Rochester committed three errors in the ninth to allow the Dodgers to score twice. With the tying run on deck, Done came out of the pen and got the final three outs to end the contest.

Burns went 3-4 at the dish with an RBI and two runs scored while Trotman went 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and a walk for the Dodgers.

Luna went 3-5 for the Ridgemen while Done and Brown each drove in three. Reagan Lucia got the win on the mound tossing seven innings allowing four runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three.

The Dodgers will continue their series with the Ridgemen tomorrow at Basket Road Park in Rochester. First pitch will be at 7 p.m.
