ST. LOUIS – Former Saint Louis University men’s basketball standout Rob Loe (Auckland, New Zealand) departed for Tokyo today to join the New Zealand men’s national basketball team camp as it prepares to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The Tall Blacks are one of six teams competing for one spot in the Olympic Games at the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Manila, Philippines. They open the competition July 6 against the host Philippines. The other countries competing in the tournament are Canada, France, Senegal and Turkey.

Loe just completed his professional season with Limburg United, which plays in the top league in Belgium. He averaged 7.1 ppg and shot a team-leading 65.3 percent from the floor in helping the club register a semifinal appearance in the league playoffs.

In four seasons at Saint Louis from 2010-14, Loe appeared in 133 games, scored 7.3 ppg and pulled down nearly four rebounds per contest. He is seventh all-time at SLU with 88 blocked shots. Loe helped the Billikens to three NCAA Tournaments, back-to-back regular-season Atlantic 10 Conference titles and an A-10 Tournament crown during his career.
