ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – St. Bonaventure University sophomores Cole Peterson and Brandon Schlimm have each been named to the Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Conference second team through a voting of the league’s head coaches, officials announced Tuesday.
One of the slickest defensive shortstops in the Atlantic 10, Peterson earned his spot on the all-conference teams through his defense, speed and a strong finish to the year at the plate. The Johnsonburg, Pa. native finished the year fourth in the A-10 with 19 stolen bases and was a steady and often stellar hand in the field. He committed just three errors in 137 chances during conference play, good for a .978 fielding percentage, and turned 33 double plays. At the plate, Peterson posted a .289 overall batting average with 34 runs, 16 RBIs and 11 doubles and hit .333 with runners in scoring position. During A-10 play, Peterson fashioned a .324 batting average with 13 RBIs.
Schlimm positioned himself as one of the A-10’s top starters throughout the year, completing the season with a 7-5 record and 2.11 ERA in 94.0 innings of work. The Kersey, Pa. product ranked third in the A-10 in overall ERA and fourth in opposing batting average by limiting opponents to a .212 batting average. In A-10 play, Schlimm was even more impressive – he went 5-2 with a 1.85 ERA in eight conference starts and struck out 48 batters in 63.1 innings, holding opponents to a .182 batting average. For the season, he allowed three earned runs or fewer in 12 of his 13 starts including two earned runs or less in 10 of those starts. He also logged seven or more innings in 10 of his starts. Of the four pitchers selected to the all-conference teams, Schlimm is the youngest.
The Bonnies compiled a 26-22-1 overall record this spring, good for the program’s most wins since 2009.
