KINGSTON, R.I. – For the second straight day the St. Bonaventure baseball team struggled to find offense at Rhode Island, falling 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.

The Bonnies now stand 17-15-1 overall on the year and 4-7 in Atlantic 10 play while Rhode Island improves 15-19, 7-4.

The Rams led early following a two-out RBI single from Ryan Olmo in the first and the 1-0 score would hold until the seventh.

St. Bonaventure finally broke through in the top of the seventh when Tyler Walter singled with one out and moved to second on a passed ball. Walter moved up to third following a fly out and came in to score on a wild pitch for the tie.

Rhode Island broke the deadlock in the eighth. Martin Figueroa hit what turned out to be the game-winning single, punching a hit to left to score one run with another coming in following a Bonnies fielding error to stretch the lead to 3-1.

Bona went down in order in the ninth to end the game.

Connor Grey pitched well in defeat for the Brown and White, falling to 2-4 on the year despite allowing just three hits in his eight innings of work. Grey struck out eight and walked three.

Steve Moyers (3-5) went the distance for Rhode Island, surrendering just three hits and one unearned run while walking one and striking out seven.

Walter, David Vaccaro and Cole Peterson all singled for the Bonnies, but the Brown and White were held without an extra base hit.

The two teams conclude the three-game series Sunday at noon.
