Xavier’s Trevon Bluiett and Edmond Sumner garner All Big East honors

CINCINNATI – The BIG EAST Conference announced today that Xavier University sophomore Trevon Bluiett has been named to the 2015-16 All-BIG EAST First Team. In addition, teammate Edmond Sumner was a unanimous selection to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team.  The conference’s head coaches choose the all-conference teams and are not permitted to vote for their own players.

Bluiett ., which ranks ninth in the BIG EAST, and stands third on the team and 13th in the league in rebounding at 6.4 rpg. Bluiett is a finalist for the Julius Erving Award and was on the midseason Naismith Player of the Year Watch List. Sumner is third on the team in scoring at 11.0 ppg., which ranks 26th in the BIG EAST and third among all BIG EAST freshmen.

The BIG EAST Player of the Year will come from the All-BIG EAST First Team.  The conference will announce Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Freshman of the Year and the BIG EAST Men’s Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year on Wednesday, March 9.  The announcement will be made on the first day of the BIG EAST Tournament Presented by the Jeep Brand at Madison Square Garden at4:30 p.m. ET.  The other league individual awards will be announced Monday, March 7.

No. 5 Xavier finished the regular season at 26-4 overall and in second place in the BIG EAST Conference at 14-4. XU earned the No. 2 seed in this week’s BIG EAST Tournament and will play Thursday night at 7 p.m. against the winner of the first round game between No. 7 seed Marquette and No. 10 seed St. John’s.
