ALBANY, NY – The Monmouth University Hawks and the Siena College Saints each claimed two of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) four major awards, voted by the league’s 11 head coaches.
The Hawks major award winners were headlined by MAAC Player of the Year, Justin Robinson and MAAC Rookie of the Year Micah Seaborn, while Siena earned MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honors with Javion Ogunyemi and MAAC Sixth Player of the Year accolades with Nico Clareth.
Robinson, a 5-foot-8, junior guard from Lake Katrine, New York, was a unanimous choice to the All-MAAC First Team and earned a spot on the team for the second year in a row after leading Monmouth to its first ever MAAC regular season title and a program record 25 wins. He is currently ranked third in the conference with his 20.2 points per game average and seventh in assists with a 3.7 average. Robinson’s 2.1 steals per contest leads the league and his 1.7 assists to turnover ratio is good for sixth. He won MAAC Player of the Week three times during his junior campaign.
Seaborn, a 6-foot-5, freshman guard from Fort Worth, Texas, was a unanimous choice to the All-Rookie Team after scoring 13.0 points per game in the regular season, good for 21st in the league. He ranks fourth in the MAAC with his 85.0 percent free throw percentage and eighth with his 39.3 three point field goal percentage. Seaborn earned three MAAC Rookie of the Week honors in 2015-16, which tied for the league most.
Ogunyemi, a 6-foot-8 junior forward from Troy, New York, led the league with 2.1 blocked shots per game in the regular season. He ranks second in the conference in offense rebounds grabbing 3.3 per game and seventh in rebounds averaging 6.3 an outing. Ogunyemi also averaged 15.1 points during the regular season, good for 11th in the MAAC and logged the second highest field goal shooting percentage in 2015-16.
Clareth, a 6-foot-5, freshman guard from Baltimore, Maryland, averages 13.1 points per game, which ranks 20th on the conference scoring list making him a unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team. He accounted for 1.5 steals per game, which tied for second best in the league and shot 46.2 percent from the field to place him at number 12 in the MAAC. Clareth was a two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week choice this season.
