EDISON, NJ – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announces the 2015-16 MAAC Men’s Basketball All-Rookie Team, selected by the league’s 11 head coaches.
The team is made up of Curtis Cobb from Fairfield University, Brian Parker of Marist College, Micah Seaborn from Monmouth University, Antwon Portley of Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College’s Nico Clareth. Parker, Seaborn, Portley, and Clareth were all unanimous selections to the team. One of these five players will be named the 2015-16 MAAC Rookie of the Year, also selected by the head coaches of the league. The winner will be announced on Friday, March 4 at 5:00 p.m. at the Postseason Awards Show located at the Renaissance Hotel Ball Room. The show will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
Cobb, a 6-foot-4, freshman guard from Fall River, Massachusetts, averaged 11.1 points per game, good for 28th on the MAAC chart. He ranks ninth in steals per game, averaging 1.4 and shot the 15th best three-point percentage at 36.4 percent. Cobb was named Rookie of the Week on Feb.1.
Parker, a 6-foot-2, freshman guard from Cleveland, Ohio, was a unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team. He leads all freshman and ranks sixth in the MAAC in scoring, averaging 16.3 points per game and ranks 19th with his 5.3 rebounds per contest. Parker ranks third in the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 51.8 percent per outing and his 2.9 assists per game is good for 12th. He was named MAAC Rookie of the Week twice and MAAC Player of the week once during the season.
Seaborn, a 6-foot-5, freshman guard from Fort Worth, Texas, scored 13.0 points per game in the regular season, good for 21st in the league. He ranks fourth in the MAAC with his 85.0 percent free throw percentage and eighth with his 39.3 three point field goal percentage. He earned three MAAC Rookie of the Week honors in 2015-16 en route to being a unanimous choice to the All-Rookie Team.
Portley, a 6-foot-4, freshman guard from Lancaster, Texas, ranks first on his team and 16th in the MAAC in scoring, averaging 14.1 points per game. He made 2.3 three point field goals per game, which ranks 11th in the MAAC and shot 83.2 percent from the free throw line which is good for eighth. Portley was named MAAC Rookie of the Week on three occasions in his rookie season helping him earn a unanimous spot on the All-Rookie Team.
Clareth, a 6-foot-5, freshman guard from Baltimore, Maryland, averages 13.1 points per game, which ranks 20th on the conference scoring list making him a unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team. He accounted for 1.5 steals per game, which tied for second best in the league and shot 46.2 percent from the field to place him at number 12 in the MAAC. Clareth was a two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week choice this season.
