ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis freshman guard Jermaine Bishop (Queens, N.Y.) was named the Atlantic 10 Conference men’s basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season, the league office announced today. He is the first Billiken since Kwamain Mitchell in 2008-09 to claim the award at least three times.
Bishop averaged a team-leading 18.5 ppg as SLU posted two victories last week. He scored 20 points at George Mason, including the game-winning bucket with five seconds left in overtime. Bishop also tied his career high with six assists and six rebounds against the Patriots. In the Billikens’ win against Fordham on Saturday, Bishop scored 17 points and drilled three 3-pointers.
Bishop is the top scorer amongst A-10 freshmen in league games with a 12.3 ppg average.
The Billikens (10-16, 5-9 A-10) host the Dayton Flyers (21-5, 11-3 A-10) Tuesday night at Chaifetz Arena. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
