ROCHESTER – A huge run to start the game, relentless activity on the boards, and a balanced offensive attack were the keys as the MCC men’s basketball team clinched home court for regionals with a 90-68 victory over Jamestown Community College Saturday afternoon.
The Tribunes jumped out to a 36-8 lead and held off any effort by Jamestown to get back in the game. The win moved Monroe to 10-0 in the region and 20-3 overall.
MCC has a first-round bye and will host the Region III, Division II Final Four on Feb. 27-28.
The Tribunes dominated the opening minutes of the game, utilizing the balanced scoring attack that has become the team’s calling card. ShaQuan Bretoux and Damon Miraud each scored seven during the game-opening 36-8 run over the first 13 minutes.
Izaha Jackson added six during the spurt, and eight players total hit the scoring column as the Tribunes took command.
Jackson ended up leading the team with 16 points. Bretoux chipped in with 15 points and seven boards, and Miraud and Darwin Trotman each added 11.
Romaine Thomas contributed 10 and Dykweil Bryan stuffed the stat sheets to the tune of 10 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Trotman, Thomas, and Denzel Banks all added six rebounds as the Tribunes held a 56-41 edge on the glass.
