ROCHESTER, NY – James Beresford went 4-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored as Team Australia beat Team Philippines, 11-1 in seven innings, in the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Sydney, Australia Thursday night.

Beresford, who re-signed with the Twins in December, hit a career-high .307 last season for the Red Wings and has spent parts of the last three years in Rochester. He started at shortstop and led off for the Aussies, who face Team South Africa at 3:30 a.m. ET (7:30 p.m. local time) on Friday.

Allan de San Miguel and Eric Farris, who both played for the Wings last season, also appeared in Thursday’s contest. de San Miguel started at catcher for Australia and finished 0-for-4 from the seven spot in the batting order while Farris went 1-for-3 with the only run scored for the Philippines from the leadoff spot. Former Wing Luke Hughes finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored for the Aussies. READ THE FULL STORY HERE.
