ROCHESTER, NY – James Beresford finished 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, drove in a run and scored another as Team Australia beat Team South Africa Friday, 4-1, as the Aussies improved to 2-0 in the World Baseball Classic Qualifier in Sydney.
Australia advanced to the Qualifier Championship at 10 p.m. ET Saturday (2 p.m. local time Sunday). The Aussies will play either New Zealand or South Africa.
Beresford started at shortstop and hit in the leadoff spot again for the Aussies. He doubled and scored in the bottom of the first and added an RBI ground out in the sixth. Beresford is batting .625 (5-for-8) through two games in the Qualifier.
Former Wings Trent Oeltjen (1-for-2, 2B, BB, RBI), Luke Hughes (1-for-3) and Allan de San Miguel (1-for-4) all started for Australia. Eric Farris, who played in Rochester from 2013-15, finished 4-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored as the Philippines were eliminated with a 17-7 loss to New Zealand. READ FULL STORY HERE.
