SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Alex Perry (Salve Regina) paced a 13-hit attack, and the Syracuse Jr. Chiefs pounded the Cortland Crush, 12-1 in New York Collegiate Baseball League action at Onondaga Community College, Tuesday night.
Perry finished 3-for-4 at the plate. His two-out single highlighted a three-run fourth, and the Jr. Chiefs never looked back on the way to their fourth win in the last five games.
The North Attleboro, Massachusetts native added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh with another two-out base knock. The Jr. Chiefs first baseman also scored three runs.
James Wynne (Dean College) earned his first win in his first start of the season. The right-hander allowed one run on four hits over six innings. He struck out four and walked none.
Roman Wild (St. Bonaventure) tossed scoreless inning in relief. Jean-Carlos Bersagoico (Southern Vermont) worked the eighth and ninth without allowing a run.
Phil Madonna (Siena) brought home two of his three RBI with a two-out double in the seventh.
Michael Elfreth (Widener) finished with three hits in six at bats. The Syracuse third baseman touched home three times.
Justin Healey (Widener) finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Brian Colbert (Keuka) collected three hits in four trips to the plate with two RBI.
Shane Trevino (IPFW) added two RBI. Madonna drove in three.
Alex Schutz (St. Bonaventure) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Shae Edmonds (Howard Payne) took the loss. The right-hander allowed two runs on six hits over three innings.
Syracuse improved to 18-15 and moved into a virtual three-way tie for second in the NYCBL’s Eastern Division with Cortland (17-14) and the Geneva Red Wings (16-13) The three sit two and half games off the pace set by the first-place Syracuse Sal Cats (19-11).
Cortland travels to Sherrill to take on the Silversmiths, Wednesday. First pitch at Noyes Park is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Syracuse gets a day off before hosting Cortland for a 7 p.m. first pitch, Thursday night.
