MUMFORD, N.Y. — Action from the 12th Annual National Silver Base Ball Tournament.
Melrose 17 Northville Eclipse 6
With one hand down and trailing 5-4 in the third, three Melrose strikers made first. “Full Moon” tallied three aces when his ball was muffed in center field, and Melrose led 8-5. The Pondfeilders tallied aces in the fourth and fifth. “Short Fuse” made second to start the fourth. The next two strikers made first. “Gap” tallied an ace when he made first before the side was dead, and Melrose led 13-5. Controversy influenced the Northrup fifth. With one hand down, a stolen base was ruled a pickoff when it was determined there was not a muff by the catcher, but that the ball was caught on a bounce. Northrup had three more make their first in the inning but did not score.
Rochester 16 Akron 8
Brandon “Moonlight” Gotham made his first. Steve “Stubby” DeVito made his second. Brian “Meat Cleaver” Gotham made first, and Rochester never looked back tallying six aces in the first. Mike “Whiskey” Williams delighted the cranks as he made second off the fence and tallied two aces. Rochester led 6-1 before the side was dead. “Moonlight” and “Stubby” made first to start the third, and Rochester doubled their aces.
