HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The Dodgers improve to a league best 29-7 record.
The Dodgers got on the board in the third when Thad Johnson (St. Bonaventure) connected on a two-out single.
In the fourth, Jake Kenney (Brockport) executed a suicide squeeze, Jake Marinelli (Mercyhurst) scored on a throwing error, and Brandon Sandoval (Vanguard) doubled home the third run to make it 4-0.
The Dodgers drew five walks in the fifth inning to increase their lead to 6-0. Kenney and Ray Carolina (Monroe CC) were credited with RBI.
Hornell added three more in the sixth (three scored on a throwing error), two in the seventh (run scored on a outfield error and a RBI single by Spencer Scorza), and two in the ninth (fielder choice RBI by Morrison and Scorza) to hold a 13-0 lead. The Rapids scored their lone run of the game with two outs in the 9th when they took advantage of two walks and a throwing error.
Morrison was 2-5 with two RBI, Johnson was 2-5 with an RBI, and Scorza (Cornell) was 2-6 with two RBI. On top of the eight walks and 11 hits, the Dodgers were hit by three pitches and took advantage of five Rapids errors.
On the mound, Jordan Accetta (Wofford) improved to a league leading 8-0 with six solid innings. He allowed just two singles (both in the fourth inning) while striking out seven Rapids. Tyler Slepski (Mercyhurst North East) tossed the final three innings striking out six without letting up a hit or an earned run.
Tony Schultz (Northwestern College) and Andrew Bonnette (Walsh) collected the two hits for the Rapids on the evening.
The Dodgers have won 10 of their last 11 games. The team registered more than 10 runs for the 14th time in the season and now has outscored opponents 276-130 on the year.
Hornell returns home for the first time in over a week on Thursday when they host the Wellsville Nitros. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
Genesee (17-21) travels to Wellsville (10-26) for a 2 p.m. start.
